What is Computer Science Engineering?

Engineering is one of the most productive and highly paid jobs today. There are several different types of Engineering courses and branches. Among these, Computer Science Engineering is one of the highly-praised branches. In this world of technology, the job of a Computer Science engineer is quite interesting and well paid.

Now comes the point, What is actually Computer Science Engineering?

Computer Science Engineering consists of core computer programming and networking skills. Computer Science Engineering provides ample knowledge in both aspects – hardware as well as software – about the implementation design and management of the entire information system. Students learn about the development of computer hardware and software systems as a part of the curriculum and acquire comprehensive knowledge about communication systems and other related tools as well. This is also one of the reasons why graduates of Computer Science are ideally suited for robotics study.

Computer Science Engineering (CSE) is one of the most sought-after courses among engineering students and is an academic program that integrates computer engineering and Computer Science. The program, which demonstrates the fundamentals of computer programming and networking, contains a multitude of topics. These subjects include computing, algorithms, programming languages, programs. Computer Science engineers are today working in many computing fields, like designing microprocessors, personal computers, and supercomputers, designing and writing circuit software to operate them, and much more.

Eligibility for Computer Science Engineering:

Undergraduate programs (10+2) with Biology, Maths, and Chemistry
Postgraduate programs B.Tech from a recognized University

To pursue Computer Science Engineering from IITs, it is mandatory to qualify in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). In the case of UG programs in Computer Science Engineering, students must have passed his Higher Secondary examination (10+2) from CBSE or any other equivalent board with subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The selection is done on the basis of calculating aggregate marks which should match the cut-off criteria.

For admission in postgraduate programs of Computer Science Engineering, the candidate needs to be done B.Tech from a well-recognized University and the percentile should be matching the criteria. Also, there are exams like GATE which are conducted to find out the eligible students who can get enrolled in the M.Tech course.

Admission Process for Computer Science Engineering:

For  Computer Science Engineering courses:

Admission to the UG Computer Science course is of two categories – merit-based or entrance-based. Often colleges select candidates on the basis of the merit list prepared by the university they are affiliated to. Some of the reputed institutes conduct entrance exams alongside the private interview for choosing candidates for course admission. Entrance exams may vary from one institute to another. There are some national-level exams too that offer admission to various government institutes for Computer Science Engineering. Some of the entrance exams conducted by the reputed authorities are:

  • JEE Mains
  • KCET
  • RPET

Many private colleges directly admit students for Computer Science Engineering courses.
